Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that long before today, there have been Indigenous peoples who have been stewards of this land. Baawaating has been a gathering place for Anishinabek people for time immemorial. In particular we acknowledge Ketegaunseebee/Garden River First Nation, Obadjiwan/Batchewana First Nation, Missanabie Cree Nation and the Métis people who have long inhabited this area.

This territory is covered by the Robinson-Huron treaty of 1850 and the Penefeather Treaty of 1859. Treaties are sacred agreements between both indigenous people and settlers.

We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work here and we thank all the generations of Indigenous peoples who have taken care of this land.
